Say it Ain't So:

New Zealand Angus Beef at McDonald's in Canada?

According to a report in the New Zealand Dominion Post, hamburger giant McDonald's will be importing grass-fed NZ Angus beef to mix with grain-fed North American product and used in their restaurants in the US and Canada. The NZ deal is to see 25.2 million kilograms of product purchased, with 20 million kilograms slated to go overseas. While most of us know better than to believe everything we read, this bears further investigation. It certainly makes no sense when you look at the price we are getting for beef here at home. Read the article entitled "Angus burgers to put $5m into Kiwi farmers' coffers" HERE.
Confirmation of the above in an article in the New Zealand Business Review HERE
, which states: "New Zealand Angus beef is being used in North American products, but is blended there with meat containing more fat to produce the final burger . . . less desirable meat was destined for the North American market to be blended . . . "
The NZ Angus Association is doing an admirable job promoting the launch of the Angus burgers in their country - see their website
